Research has revealed that milk is ‘better than water and sports drinks’ for children when it comes to rehydration.
The study by McMaster University, Ontario of eight to ten year olds showed that milk is better than either a sports drink or water because it is a source of high quality protein, carbohydrates, calcium and electrolytes. Milk proved especially ideal for rehydrating after exercise as it replaced sodium lost in sweat, helping the body retain fluid better^.
Simon Muschamp, Head of Marketing, Pritchitts said, “We’ve always been aware of how important milk is in the development of healthy bones in children, but the new research on hydration is an indication of just how essential milk is in keeping children healthy and active.”
For schools examining their milk offering, Pritchitts Viva Milk range is the easy way to get pupils to drink more milk: it complies with school guidelines, contains no artificial colours, flavours, sweeteners or preservatives and comes in three great flavours – Strawberry, Chocolate and Banana*.
For a cost effective way to put flavoured milk on Primary School menus, Pritchitts recently launched Viva Powdered Milk Mix; available in chocolate and strawberry flavour, it provides school caterers with real practical benefits, as all they need to add is water and whisk. A 1kg Viva pack will produce 65, 100ml servings of the delicious milk flavoured drink when mixed with 5.5 litres of cold water, making it ideal for school budgets.
